Why does my Lenoxx CD player make knocking noise?

Recently purchased, set up & tried playing a cassette – very strange knocking noise coming from speakers, only when using the cassette player, in play, fast forward or rewind mode. Any thoughts? I thought it could be interference from other electronics in the vicinity, turned all other electronics off but made no difference.

Never play you vinyl on this, or you may have badly damaged records. Secondly the speakers, what a joke! They were very poor quality and sound flat.
