Can a Denon 2113avr use a subwoofer?
The manual isn’t clear but it might well be the case that direct mode will not use the sub. It does say that regular stereo (i.e. not direct) mode will output to the sub as well though. Failing that I would guess you will need to connect to a TV and bring up the speaker configuration menu unfortunately. I have a Denon 2113AVR which works well.

If you start the Denon receiver directly with Airplay (not switching from a previous input) the sound comes out as 2.0. Then as soon you press MUSIC mode, the sound mode switches automatically to Stereo 2.1 and you start getting sound out of the subwoofer.
