If you want to set up a simple turntable stereo, and you’re only planning on using it for that one function, you don’t need bulky and unnecessary equipment like a receiver.
Do I need an amplifier with a turntable?
Amplifier. Once your have a turntable and pre-amp you will need an amplifier to connect to the preamplifier in order to boost the signal to a line level signal. Some A/V Receivers also have a built-in pre-amp allowing you to plug your turntable directly into it without needing a separate pre-amp.
Can a pioneer turntable be connected to a computer?

As It does not have a Phono input I have connected my turntable to a Pre Amp and then to a spare input on the receiver. That works fine. The Sub Woofer output on the receiver is labelled Pre Out – does that mean I have to use another Pre Amp to connect to the Sub – or does that only apply if the Sub is ‘ passive’ ?

Most likely (but not always) there’s also a skinny single wire coming from the turntable.

If your receiver and turntable both have a built-in phono preamps, and your turntable has a switch that lets you bypass or turn its built-in preamp off, you can experiment to see if either your receiver’s or turntable’s phono preamp sounds better. You might discover that one sounds significantly better than the other.

Can a vintage turntable work with a Bluetooth speaker?
Most newer stereo gear, including soundbars, mini-systems, Bluetooth speakers, home theatre receivers, etc. do NOT have phono inputs. To use a vintage turntable with these newer units the turntable signal must pass through an external phono preamp.
