How can I use my Bose sound dock on my iPod?

Back up the contents of your iPod. Find the RESTORE button on iTunes and click on it. This will reset your iPod to the factory settings (and erase everything that is on your iPod). Synch your iPod to reload all of its contents back onto your iPod. I did this, then tried to use my Bose Sound Dock, and it worked just as it had before.

How does an old iPod charge with a newer iPod?

Perhaps the most significant is that a few years back, Apple decided to modify the dock-connector port. Whereas older iPods charged via the dock connector’s FireWire circuitry—remember, early iPods were FireWire-only—newer iPods, as well as the iPhone and iPad, charge and sync only over USB.

Can you listen to music on your computer while charging your iPod?

You can listen to music while your iPod charges on a dock or with an adapter, but not while it is attached to the computer. In some cases, you may be able to eject the iPod from the computer; however, if you leave it connected it will still charge and you can use the iPod at the same time.

Can a new iPod dock work with an old speaker?

I’m not talking about speakers with dock cradles that don’t fit the latest iPods and iPhones. Most recent docking speakers use Apple’s Universal Dock design, which means you can usually make your speaker system “current” by simply using the dock insert that came with your iPhone or iPod, or by buying the appropriate insert from Apple .

What kind of connector does an onstage iPod use?

The OnStage was great for my needs while it worked. The 30-pin dock connector is the one that’s been on iPods since the 3rd gen iPod (older than you iPod), until recently. The NEW connector is called the Lighthing connector, and it is much smaller in size. A 20GB iPod from 2005 is probably a 4th gen iPod.
