How do you fix a small speaker?

Unfasten the driver (speaker) by removing screws around the perimeter.

  1. If the speaker is noisy, check the voice coil. Use rubber cement or a repair kit to repair any small holes in the cone.
  2. If sound is intermittent, check the speaker cable and connections, test the thermal fuse and check the voice coil.

How do you test if a small speaker is working?

Speaker Testing Option 1: Connect a 9 Volt battery to the leads of the speaker, positive lead to positive battery end and negative lead to negative battery end. If a pulse is generated in the speaker then the speaker is still functioning properly.

There is a variety of issues that can occur with speaker voice coils, and sometimes it is possible to repair them. Occasionally on smaller speakers with no adjustments it can be possible to repair them by easing them back into the centre. Gently hold the cone – remember it is made of paper and can damage easily.
