Adcom appears to be having the same problem with their $299.95 GFA-535 amp. Credibility. Now if this amplifier were imported from England and sold for $599.95, then maybe it would be taken seriously. And highly praised, no doubt. For the baby Adcom is one of the finest solid-state amps I have heard.

owned Adcom 565 and 5500 Pre Amp/Amp combo for since 90 or 91 with no issues driving B&W Matrix and early Energy monitors. Both were built in NJ and recently sold in great working condition with only one service issue on the pre amp. Like a lot of audio companys some products they put out are un inspiring at best.

The 535 is a forward, aggressive sounding amp. Its best mated with warm, laid back, rolled of sounding speakers. I found it to work well with a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 7.2 speakers I had. Some people have reported using it to drive Vandersteen speakers.

It is by far NOT the best amp at its typical selling price ($125-175)Here are 2 amps that are WAAAAY better sounding. The B&K ST140 ($175-225) and the Adcom GFA 5200 ($150-200). These both use mosfet outputs and are smoother, sweeter and just plain more musical than the 535.
