Is RCA same as optical?

RCA is the oldest, optical and coaxial deliver the same quality, and HDMI is the best of the bunch in terms of compressed or uncompressed HD audio. Specifically, TOSLINK uses fiber-optic cables that transfer information through the light that’s beamed through glass or plastic fiber optic tubes.

Should I use RCA or optical?

Can you hook up external speakers to a home theater system?

Most of the time, it’s impossible to plug external speakers directly into these now. What you can do is plug a Hi-Fi system, soundbar, sound system, or home theater receiver into those sockets. You can even combine your speakers with an amp if you have the know-how.

Why is analog audio not working on my TV?

It may be that your TV won’t convert digital audio (via HDMI) to analog audio. Kind of stupid as you can’t use the headphones or analog out. If the set top box has analog out then connect it directly to the stereo. If not then you can use an HDMI audio extractor
