In summary, if you are looking for something portable and have an extra $1,200 to spend, the Bose Acoustic Wave System is probably your only choice. Just don’t believe their hype, and expect too much from what is, ultimately, a fancy boom box. On one occasion the RCA input jack came detached when I removed an audio cable.

My system is an Acoustic Wave I with CD, built in 2004. There is a new Acoustic Wave II available that supposedly addresses some of the limitations of the original system by using digital amplification.
