What does protector mean on my Sony receiver?

The Sony receiver protector error is designed to protect against a short circuit or power surge. With the Sony receiver in protect mode, external speakers will not function properly and a thorough assessment of the issue is required to remove the protection while preventing damage to the speakers.

Why does my receiver Say protect?

Your stereo receiver is going into protection mode because the receiver has an internal short, a speaker is bad or the speaker wiring has a problem, such as incorrect wire gauge or bad connections. If the receiver shuts off after connecting a speaker, that speaker’s wiring or the speaker itself has a problem.
