What is an audio preout?

A pre-out allows you to connect an external power amplifier instead of using the amp that’s built into the receiver. It allows a signal to pass through the receiver without amplification, and to instead be amplified by another power source.

How do you use a pre-out on a receiver?

How to Connect a Power Amp to an AV Receiver

  1. Find the power source for all pieces of equipment.
  2. Purchase all the necessary equipment (trigger wire, RCA cable, speaker wire)
  3. Run a trigger wire from the Power Amp to the AV Receiver.
  4. Use an RCA cable to connect the AV receiver’s pre-out to the power amplifier’s jack.

Is audio out the same as pre-out?

Is pre-out called low level or something else? Pre-out = line level = low level. But, pre-out would typically imply “volume control” while line out would typically imply “no volume control”.

What is Preout?

Pre-outs are used to connect an external amplifier to your receiver so they can power speakers in your Home Theater system. An array of pre-outs allows you to turn your receiver into an exclusive pre-amp/processor by using external amps to power all your speakers.

What is sound card line?

Line in is the audio jack found on an audio device that can be used to connect to another audio output device or microphone. The core functionality of the line-in jack is to aid in audio recording or manipulate the incoming audio. Line in is also known as sound in, audio in or mic in.

Why is preamplifier used?

The primary function of a preamplifier is to extract the signal from the detector without significantly degrading the intrinsic signal-to- noise ratio. Therefore, the preamplifier is located as close as possible to the detector, and the input circuits are designed to match the characteristics of the detector.

Can you split preamp outputs?

Normally you can split the preamp output into two or three without problems – you kan even by cables that do it !

Does Pre-out control volume?

Pre outs are variable level really. Affected by the volume control (I edited this after explaining it backwards) They could be contrasted by something like a CD player with no output level control, which would be fixed level.

Can I use pre-out for subwoofer?

If your subwoofer has no subwoofer output, you can still connect a subwoofer to it using a pre-out port. Pre-outs can be used with subwoofers that have their own internal amplifier. Connecting your powered subwoofers to a pre-out is very simple.

Do you need an amplifier for a pre out?

The surround pre-outs are for connecting to another amplifier so that more powerful speakers/amplifiers can be used to power the Surround channels. You do not need an amplifier for the surround speakers, its built in to your receiver already. Hook up the surround sound speakers to the speaker jacks on the receiver.

Can a sub pre be plugged into a pre amp?

If you have a powered subwoofer, you can plug the Sub Pre out to it. If you only have passive, then you will have to get some way to amplify the sub preout signal (another amp, or a powered subwoofer). You should not expect to hear sound from the surround speakers UNLESS the input being used on the receiver is digital (coax, Optical,…

Can a pre out be used with a line out?

I have dual subwoofers connected to the two PRE OUT’s and Onkyo said to use Zone 2 LINE OUT RCA outputs. But isn’t LINE OUT speaker level signals and would it degrade sound quality if used? Thank you for your help.

Is the SURR back pre out the same as the pre out?

Both the Sub Pre out, and the Surr Back Pre outs are the same – when there is a 5.1 signal (or dolby prologic, or other “fake” 5.1 modes) the signal processing in the receiver generates the signal for all the channels, and the Pre outs are balanced line out version of the same sound that would go to the speakers.
