Also note that if setting the HDMI output to TV in order to pass audio through a Denon AV receiver, the receiver itself will then no longer play any part in processing said audio. The audio cannot be passed through as well as the receiver processing, amplifying and outputting it via the speakers connected to the AV receiver.

Can a AV receiver use both output and passthrough?
The receiver can be configured to use both or either output and it can be set to pass audio throug, but the passthrough setting would apply to both outputs and if set to pass the audio through then the AV receiver will no longer deal with the audio in any respect.
