What kind of surround sound does a Yamaha rx-v361 have?

Why does my Yamaha rx-v361 make a cracking noise?
The amp is fine when playing out non-5.1 soundtracks, but when it plays a 5.1 movie sound track (whether it’s from the DVD or Sky HD), I get a really annoying crackling noise coming from all the front speakers (L, R and centre). It’s noticably worse on when playing out cetain bassier tones.
