Why does my receiver keep clicking?

The clicks and ticks could be caused by something as simple as the relay being stuck. All you need to do is lift your receiver up at the front by a small amount and then drop it. If you don’t feel comfortable trying this, then don’t, but I’ve known it to work for fixing a clicking relay.

It sat around for probably three months before I decided to hook it up to another pair of speakers in a different room. However, now the receiver doesn’t want to stay on. I press the button, and it comes on with the display lighted, and then about two seconds later it simply clicks and shuts off.

How can I tell if my TV has surround sound?

Try different cables to verify this is not a bad set of cables. Try setting the Audio/Video (A/V) receiver to a different Surround Sound mode. What should I do if my AV receiver turns itself off?

Replace it with a new fuse of the same amperage and voltage (available from electronics parts stores such as RadioShack for about 50 cents a pop) and you should be back in business. If, after your fix, the receiver powers on, but then turns itself off after a few minutes, it’s possible something is physically damaged inside.

Some receivers have a screw-in fuse in the back of the unit that can be removed and inspected easily, while others may have one or more fuses inside the case–you may have to unplug the unit, remove the case and root around inside to see.
