Why does my Sony receiver say protect?

If the impedance of any of the speakers is below the rated impedance range indicated on the rear of the home audio device next to the speaker connections, the home audio device may enter the PROTECT mode. Raising the volume with a low impedance speaker will trigger the protection circuit.

What to do when your Onkyo goes into Protect Mode?

Leave the speaker and audio cables disconnected. Turn the receiver on and turn the volume to the maximum setting. Leave the receiver on for 30 seconds. If the receiver shuts off and goes back into protect mode you will need to contact your Onkyo dealer. Turn the volume back to the minimum setting and turn off the receiver.

Is it safe to use an Onkyo AV receiver?

Onkyo AV receivers do have a reputation for high failure rates, primarily because of HDMI boards. Most of the major brand AV receivers are on the junky side these days as the manufacturers race to the bottom of the price ladder. I’m holding on happily to my 8 year old AVR.

What kind of capacitors do Onkyo receivers use?

This board sits very close to the main transistors so it is subjected to a lot of heat. What Onkyo should have done is to have used capacitors rated for higher heat in this area but again, this would increase the cost. The capacitors Onkyo uses are rated at 85 degrees Celsius.

How many years should an Onkyo receiver last?

Reliability has been a struggle for Onkyo. My expectations are that a receiver should last at least 10 years. Onkyos have tons of features, but I would take durability over features. I just replaced my Onkyo with a Pioneer (now owned by Onkyo).

What’s the up with my Receiver going into protect mode only?

Last Fall, out of the blue my Denon AVR-589 5.1 receiver stopped working. It would only come on for a few seconds and then resort to Protect mode. Here’s what I have checked, all resulting in the same outcome, only going to Protect mode. I checked all speakers, removing each until none were connected to the receiver.

How do I get my Onkyo tx-sr502 out of protection mode?

Initially, try a soft / hard reset to re-initialize the microprocessor. switch OFF unit and unplug from the mains for a couple of minutes; or power ON the Onkyo TX-SR502; press & hold VIDEO 1& STANDBY/ON buttons simultaneously; display should show “CLEAR”; unit would go into standby mode;

What happens when fuse blows on Onkyo tx-sr606?

When the device goes into protect mode, the unit will shut down, and the standby light will blink continually. This prevents the fuse from blowing. If your fuse were to blow and the device continued to run the amp could become damaged.
