Why is my Yamaha rx-v3300 not turning on?
If this unit fails to turn on when STANDBY/ON (or SYSTEM POWER) is pressed, the IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switch may not be fully slid to either position. Before Connecting Components CAUTION Never connect this unit and other components to mains power until all connections between components have been completed.

How many channels does a Yamaha rxv740 have?
What Chris says is correct in regards to rated spec. The RXV740 is rated at 75wpc, but puts out only 38 with 5 channels driven. (Source: Sound and Vision)
What kind of sound does a Yamaha 3300 make?
The X200 Yamaha series was definitely bright but not this unit. The 3300 is very neutral sounding and you may also characterise the sound as detailed. This unit is built like a tank and is in a whole different league than the 2400/1400 receivers.
